Are You Missing Multiple Teeth, But Hate The Thought of Dentures?
A Dental Bridge May Be The Right Option For You!

Cochrane Dental Centre is pleased to offer a variety of restorative dental treatments, including Cochrane Dental Centre Bridges. Dental bridges are a functional and aesthetically pleasing option for replacing missing teeth.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is very similar to a dental crown and is used as a restorative dental treatment to replace one or more missing teeth in the same area. A Dental Bridge not only restores the function of your teeth, but it also prevents the surrounding teeth from drifting out of position and into the space created by the missing teeth.

There are many types of dental bridges available, and the best option for you depends on your specific situation. Our Dental Team will thoroughly examine your teeth to identify the best type of dental bridge for your situation.

How Dental Bridges Work

A Dental Bridge is attached to the teeth on either side of the missing tooth (or teeth) called abutments. These abutment teeth are shaped in the same manner as a dental crown, in order to accommodate the dental bridge. There may be the need for the teeth to be built-up with a white filling material during the preparation of the dental bridge. The pontic — or replacement crown for the missing tooth — is fused in-between the abutments. At Cochrane Dental Centre, we primarily use porcelain fused to metal dental bridges. However, there are cases where a dental bridge can be made from porcelain,  gold, metal alloys, or a combination of these materials.

After the teeth are prepared, we obtain an impression of the affected area which is sent to our off-site dental lab for processing. To protect your teeth in the time between appointments, we make a custom temporary bridge for you to wear.

Are Dental Bridges Right for Me?

The best candidate for a dental bridge is someone with one or more missing teeth and healthy gum and bone tissues in the area where the dental bridge will be placed. A dental bridge does require special attention to hygiene at home, including regular flossing underneath the bridge to remove food and plaque. We will monitor how your dental bridge is functioning during your regular dental visits and hygiene appointments.
