Cochrane Dental Centre
Your Choice for Cochrane Periodontal Care

Periodontal Care is an Important Part of Your Overall Health!

At Cochrane Dental Centre, we provide Cochrane Periodontal Care, because caring for your gums is one of the most crucial areas of dentistry. Our Dental Team takes the time required to educate you about your dental & oral health to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums between appointments.

During your appointment for Cochrane Periodontal Care, we encourage you to ask us questions about your oral health — our dedicated team is always here to answer your questions.

Regular Dental Hygiene Appointments for Optimum Oral Health

When you visit Cochrane Dental for your Cochrane Periodontal Care, our team will thoroughly clean your teeth above the gum line using a technique called scaling; and below the gum-line, with a method known as root planing. We will use both traditional hand scalers and our ultrasonic scaling tools to remove calculus from your teeth.

The Cochrane Dental Hygiene Team will also complete the following:

  • A comprehensive assessment of your gum tissue, checking for gum recession, the presence of gingivitis and possible gum disease
  • Polish your teeth to remove surface stains
  • A fluoride treatment to strengthen the enamel surface of the teeth in areas that may be weak
  • An examination to check the head, neck and jaw areas for abnormalities
  • Oral cancer screening to assess the gum tissues, tongue, and lips for signs of oral cancer
  • Digital x-rays (when needed)

Your Periodontal Care also includes an examination by our Dental Team to evaluate the current health of your teeth, gums, and the surrounding tissue to determine the existing conditions present in your mouth, and to plan the appropriate dental treatments necessary to correct these concerns.

How Often Should I Have a Dental Hygiene Visit?

The frequency of your Periodontal Care will depend on several factors. Teeth are susceptible to the accumulation of plaque and calculus, crowded teeth, or people with gum disease, will require more frequent visits and this may not match the frequency for the other members of your family. We evaluate each patient on an individual basis to determine the dental hygiene schedule that will meet your specific needs the best. The majority of the patients who visit Cochrane Dental for their dental hygiene appointments come every 6 months, but some people may benefit from coming in every 3-4 months, and others may only require their dental hygiene visits every 9 to 12 months.
